The group of people who organise the Tutti frutti 1950s Seaside Festival come from a wide range of backgrounds.
The idea for a festival came from Poulton Neighbourhood Management (PNM) and Winning Back Morecambe's West End (WBMWE), 2 government funded regeneration projects working to make Morecambe a great place to live, work and play. The festival has been funded by PNM and WBMWE with the help of a grant from Lancaster City Council.
It was at a staff Christmas party that the idea for a 1950s theme came about when Sue from PNM got talking to the DJ, Steve Middlesborough.
The following month, Emma from PNM and WBMWE, ran an advertisement in local community newsletters and the local media asking for 1950s enthusiasts to come and join the organising committee. The response was great and resulted in our successful group of members who each bring something different to the table:
Kate Drummond is a local resident with a keen interest in the 50s decade. She is also a talented graphic designer and is responsible for the Tutti Frutti artwork.
Keith Louis is a devoted 1950s fan and travels to weekenders all over the country. He gives priceless advice on how festivals are run around the country and advises on the best bands. He also manages to sell loads of tickets for us too!
Jackie Colyer loves the 1950s and joined the group to offer her experience of 50s culture as well as offer ideas from other events she has attended.
Steve Middlesborough owns Kalimba, an organisation which runs events, and manages artists and DJs. Steve came up with the name for the festival and takes an active role on the day by stage managing all of the acts. Steve also manages the hiring of the artists who are performing at the festival.
Sarah Ellis is a local resident and a talented dance teacher. Sarah is a member of the organising committee and members from her dance school, Happy Feet, perform fantastic 1950s dance routines at the festival.
Sue Boswell works for Poulton Neighbourhood Management and is the Chair of the Tutti Frutti Festival committee. Sue runs the group and does lots of event management activities. Sue also organises community events related to the Tutti Frutti Festival to encourage more people to get involved.
Paul Fraser Gray works for Poulton Neighbourhood Management and is the administrator for the committee. Paul deals with preparing minutes from the meetings and has dealt with financial and legal planning.
Alan Winters works for Winning Back Morecambe's West End and brings experience in community development to the group. Alan also has experience in organising events.
Emma Jones works for PNM and WBMWE and provides the group with marketing experience and direction. Emma liaises with Kate on graphic design and ensures that there is adequate promotional material, advertising and public relations activities' relating to the festival.
For 2008, two new members have joined the group:
Katherine MacDonald, who is the Company Manager of More Music in Morecambe and has untold experience of running large scale events and attracting outside funding.
David Hollolly, is the Manager for Home Start Morecambe and Lancaster, and has a wealth of experience on how committees are organised and managed.
